Culross Palace & Gardens

We had a lovely trip through to Culross today. The last two times we have been there, Culross Palace, which was built in the early 17th century, has been shut so I was happy to be able to go in for a visit today. Although it is called a palace it was never a royal residence but a house owned by a wealthy merchant, Sir George Bruce. The interiors are pretty plain but the terraced gardens are wonderful with great views over the pretty village. I told one of the staff how much I loved the gardens and she said that just yesterday someone had told her they thought it was awful and needed a good tidy up!
The second extra, of the beautiful poppies, was taken next door at Bessie’s tearoom where we had coffee and very nice scones before our visit. Afterwards we walked along to The Red Lion Inn for a good pub lunch before heading home.
