Holidaymaker killed

I think we know why the Police are so active around here! They are looking for a gang of robbers who are killing and robbing people in our district for the past couple of weeks. Please read the rest of my write-up!

46-year-old man was shot and killed by three armed men at a Hartbeespoort holiday resort at 02:30 on Sunday morning, North West police said.

This was front page news in our major Afrikaans newspaper today!!

THE MURDERED MAN WAS THE BELOVED SON OF MY COUSIN!!

He was brutally murdered about 5km from our house, we heard the ambulances and police and our dog, Diefenbaker was howling and crying when he heard the sirens in the middle of the night, little did we know it was one of our own beloved family members who were killed!

He was on a fishing trip with friends. He stays about 70km from here on the outskirts of Johannesburg but came here, to our 'Peaceful and Safe' town for a well deserved little fishing holiday.

According to information we received, Christo heard a noise outside his caravan at 02:30 and when he went to investigate he seemingly noticed the armed men. He turned around, shouted for help and ran back to his caravan, but was shot in the back with a hunting rifle! His lung was penetrated and although a friend of his in a neighbouring caravan, ran to his assistance immediately, he died within 4 minutes as a result of blood loss. A doctor who came to help tried to stabilize him, but to no avail.

Apparently, the three gunmen robbed and assaulted a family in another caravan before they killed Christo. Later on Sunday another man was shot, with the same rifle, in Silkaatsnek, about 4km from us.

We read in the latest newspaper just now, a family in the same vicinity was attacked last night, and while one robber held the woman in her house at gunpoint, the other robber and the house owner were wrestling for life, the robber's gun went off accidentally and shot the robber in the house, he died on the spot and it appears to be an illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe. We hope to God it is the same gang!! One is dead now, one arrested and one ran free!
