St Thomas Becket church

What a great day we had yesterday, we took our friends to Dungeness and then over to the Marshes to see a couple of the medieval Marsh churches.  My fav is always St Thomas Becket because of its isolated position and its simplicity.  It is set on an artificial mound surrounded by drainage ditches and farmland.  A walk along to a local farm to collect the huge key to access the inside then the place and its solitude was ours.  The extra  is a very pastoral scene looking out the window.
After returning the key to its farm gate post we had a quick look at nearby St Augustines, again originally circa 1200.  Inside this church treasures to behold are the remains of a 13th century wall painting depicting the Martrydom of St Thomas Becket,  wonderful old box pews and a beautiful 12th C lead font.
Back to base and out for supper in the warm night air.
