Another Scorcher..
It was Going-to-Town day with my brother to do some errands, pick up some groceries, drop off another bag of books at the Bearly Used Book store...and meet my daughter and SIL for a coffee. They arrived in town this afternoon but will stay on their boat at the marina in town tonight and will come down to the cottage tomorrow to visit.
In between finishing my errands and the arrival of my daughter, I took a wee drive around town; although I grew up there and my parent always lived there, it isn't of course, the same town I left at age 18! There have been many, many changes, but also interesting to see that some things never seem to change....
Being such a hot day, I chose to drive to the town beach in hopes of getting a bit of a cooling breeze off the bay...but that didn't happen. It was way too hot there too and I had not come prepared to go in the water!
Although that beach is not the one I grew up on - ours was much smaller and actually was almost next door to this one - I could not help but remember the summers my friends and I spent on our little beach. ..entire days of swimming lessons, picnics lunches, sun-bathing and cavorting in the water..maybe even daring each other to jump off the high diving platform that extended out from a high rocky shoreline. There were lifeguards of course, but other than that we were on our own. We walked to and from the beach too - often along railway tracks - and were pretty much unsupervised all day. Those were the days before helicopter parents and I guess we were pretty lucky that nothing bad happened and that we managed to escape our childhood unscathed!
Anyway, the day was way too hot for me. An iced coffee down on the town wharf helped, but as soon as we got back to the cottage, I was in the lake!
Today is the last day of July..tomorrow will be August and that used to mean cooler weather..but not by the look of the weather app on my phone! Drat!
