Such a sultry night. I don’t think it dropped below 22 degrees until 4.00 am. It was splendid to go to the outdoor pool and have a refreshing swim.

Well, it would have been, but suddenly there was a really intense flash of lightning which seemed to strike the pool. It couldn’t have done, thank goodness, as my friend Lucy and I were swimming…. and there was a huge thunderclap. We got out in a real hurry and went into the indoor pool, as the Duty Manager came out to see us.

The storm passed but the roads were overflowing briefly as I drove home.

In my garden later, my Peacock butterfly and my Large White returned, along with a smaller one which hovered and dashed and was far from obvious. I captured three shots. Google reckons it was a Meadow Brown. That’s because of the single spot. It was a similar shape and shade to a Gatekeeper. I’ll go with Meadow Brown, I think.
