We stayed with friends near Glasgow and went to Loch Lomond where we had a two hour cruise from Balloch passing several of the many islands in the loch with good views towards Ben Lomond and the mountains beyond.  The largest and most southerly of the islands is Inchmurrin where the remains of the 14th century castle which was visited by Mary Queen of Scots were just visible behind trees   On the way back to our friends’ house we drove past Crookston Castle, also associated with Mary where she was reputed to have become betrothed to Lord Darnley, her second husband.  Then it was a lovely evening sitting in their sheltered garden watching the sinking sun.

This is number 40 in my series on links with Mary Queen of Scots.
