AOG - Day 5 Target Tapping

Another great day in the Alternative Olympic Games with perfect conditions for the Hummingbird Hawk Moth target tapping competition. Here you can see Harry Hummingbird-Hawk-Moth in the middle of his gold medal winning flight. The aim is to fly towards and away from the buddleia flower as quickly as possible, trying on each flight to get a bullseye by tapping  the centre of the touch sensitive cone target with the proboscis (which is about twice its length). This requires speed, precision and powerful wing muscles to fly at up to 70 beats per second. In the allotted one minute, Harry scored an amazing 11 bullseyes!

Another hot day. I got more washing done and dried and some ironing too this morning. This afternoon I walked into town for a haircut and bought some walking gear in the sale. I got this photo first thing this morning, the first time I’ve been lucky enough to get a photo and I actually got several. Off to sit in the garden now.
