Champions! (Ish)
The mighty Parkers Piece FC took on the challenge of the Cambridge Assessment 6aside tournament (and the heat) and came out heads very much held high. We were expecting to turn up, have a laugh, then go home. Well we did all that and also won a few games!
First game we went 1-0 down early doors but fought back to get a great goal from the left when Mark Whitehouse's cross was tucked beautifully away by Caroline Lemons at the front post before I snuck a ball through a few defenders for Mark to cooly dispatch the winner.
Second game was a hard fought 1-0 victory against a strong team initially considered the favourites for the group. Tom Fidler was immense at the back and also provided the assist for the goal when a long throw was contested with the keeper who strayed out of his area. Tom laid the ball back for me to place under the jumping wall to steal the victory.
Already qualified but that did not stop our assault on the top of the group, we won the third game 2-0 with me racing through to score first and then Benjamin Nutt channeled his inner Gazza to finish the game off.
Quarter final time and things were tough. The heat was getting to us, Toby Moult was bravely playing through injury to give us energy up front and then David Riley scored a thunderbolt to put us ahead. The other team came back and scored to take us to penalties where Neil Tween (our player of the tournament) saved four penalties to put us through after me and Tom scored ours.
We had no rest before the semi final and it told. We were tired and the other team played very well, gaining a 2-0 victory deservedly.
However we thought we should have had more. Therefore we took the trophy for a quick photo and claimed the victory for our awesome team of misfits and mayhem!
