Everyday I Write The Book

By Eyecatching

Snap out of it

I went to a meeting of my Booker group tonight as the long list was published today. We ended up having a nostalgia session about exploits of our youth and I had, curiously, come across this old picture of me earlier in the day. Summer of ‘76 - a year of legendary heat and dryness for those of you that were there and remember it. They even appointed a minister for drought it got so bad.

Today was very hot but this has not been a long dry summer by any stretch of the imagination.

The problem with a single reminiscence is that it rapidly causes a chain reaction and reminds you of a whole heap of memories, some of which you’d rather forget. There is, as they say, no future in nostalgia.

So moving on, this is the first book I have to read this year as part of the Booker competition: This strange eventful history. I do like a novel

"of breathtaking historical sweep and vivid psychological intimacy"

so this is right up my street… Watch this space …
