...is real, folks!
Today we had another romp on Biscuit...all 80 miles of it and wow was it fun!
First, we headed south from Keswick on a fast & twisty A road containing not a lot of traffic, turning off onto some very shunpikey narrow lanes leading us through Grasmere, Langdale, Elterwater and onto the A593 to Coniston.
There we stopped at the Ruskin Museum to learn a little about the geology of the area, the now sadly missed railway, to enjoy some paintings by a local artist themed around the Moon & water, to enjoy the peanut butter & banana rolls taken along for our lunch, and as well as getting all 'Swallows & Amazons' about the nearby lake, Oohing & Aahing over the beautifully restored record breaking Gerry Anderson'esque jet-powered beauty that is Bluebird K7! (that was slightly awesome as you may have gathered)
Our other 'to do' for the day involved riding another one of those stonkingly amazing roads that the Lake District is renown for but we were quite a distance away, until spotting a short cut on the map. Taking the B5295 through Hawkshead lead to a little vehicle ferry that sailed us the short distance across Windermere at its halfway point (extra on board with Ms.Arell) saving us many miles and making a Latte stop in Bowness sound like a HashtagReallyGoodIdea so we did & it was :-)
That settled our minds for the ascent up Kirkstone Pass, an amazing stretch of road that at the summit gave us a fantastic view back down to Windermere & beyond. We could even see the Sea at Morecambe Bay but the phone camera didn't capture it very well.
Of course their was a sign peppered with stickers from motorhome clubs, biker gangs, gumball rally drivers & nineties indie bands. The sign names the alternative ascent up from Ambleside at the top of Lake Windermere. It's called The Struggle and it's real because the sign says so.
Our plan from here was to descend the northern side of the pass to Ullswater and pick up signs for Keswick to grab a bite to eat. Of course being flooded with self confidence in her inbuilt Compass by now, your Gal neglected to use her sat-nav instead opting the signs that she then missed, and so we got lost and ended up in Pooley Bridge.
Mind you, who cares? The Pooley Bridge Inn looked lovely so we stopped there and enjoyed a lovely meal in the last of the days sunshine before riding back to Biker Base for some well earned Zzzzzzz
