We wandered across the Millenium Bridge passing the Globe Theatre where M and A left for a tour of Shakespeare’s replica theatre while we continued with A and O to the busy 1000 year old Borough Market. Then escaping the crowds we went into nearby Southwark Cathedral to see the exhibition Threads through Creation. It is a group of 12 huge silk tapestries based upon the first few pages of the bible, designed and made by Jacqui Parkinson. It will form Threads through the Bible together with 18 panels of Threads through the Cross and 14 panels of Threads through Revelation on tour next January. By then it will have taken her ten years to make the colourful intricate silk panels. Each panel represented the artist’s interpretation of the text and how she would interpret God with gold thread running through the images. The three panels together represent the universe and the creatures of the sea and land and people. It was very difficult to choose a favourite but I especially liked one that was fairly simple illustrating Day 2 of Creation.
God spoke – Water! The Creator continues his work- waters above and waters below - just waiting to be filled.
Order and creative containment . Here is water in many forms…. And a lot of weather!
Dark blue skies , full of dark clouds, hit the horizon, and empty out onto the earth, in thousands of raindrops, mists, running rivers, thunderous waterfalls, churning seas – and snowflakes.
Another that impressed me was Goodbye to Eden with reference to the fact that that we are destroying the earth and living under our own rules and regulations which have an impact on every aspect of creation. However above the heads of Adam and Eve is a dove symbolising the Holy Spirit bringing hope.
Then we met up with M and A again and continued to see more sights but all too soon it was time to say farewell as the four of them were going to see I on another of the concerts that they were doing as part of their tour in London. We had seen her for only 5 minutes the whole time but were fortunate to spend a lot of time with the other five in the family and regretted that we had not booked a later train home
