The wires which usually supply the extractor fan still work when a lightbulb is connected to them, so the failure of the fan to operate looks like a fan problem, not a wires problem. An inefficiency in the design means the electric bits of the fan cannot be removed from the wall without bringing the whole three-foot tube thingby with it, so I might not do the reciprocal test of wiring the fan up to a wire from a plug, certainly not whilst the fan is in the bathroom.
