New to me...

I saw this on a leaf today and couldn't work out what it was. I thought it might be a type of ladybird, but it was bizarrely different; look at those black and white leg-like things at the top.
It turns out that it is a ladybird, but in its pupal stage. Ladybirds have 4 stages in their lifecycle (see here) and this one will turn into a regular ladybird after 10 to 15 days. A fascinating creature.
