Hand in Hand
Fabulous, full-on day of singing workshops followed by performing with Sing with Pride, the choir I sing with in Norwich, at the Hand in Hand Festival of LGBT choirs at the beautiful Troxy theatre in London. This event was the final one in a series of celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of London-based Pink Singers: Europe's oldest LGBT choir!
Here we see the Pinkies on stage at the end of the pre-concert walk-through.
We had so much fun, and achieved so much! Including all the choirs (about 400 people in total) singing 'Va Pensiero' (March of the Hebrew Slaves) as part of the evening concert having been introduced to it in the morning!
Other workshops included traditional Maori and Zulu songs (with moves) and mediaeval songs delivered by some amazing leaders: Jamie Burton, Chris Rowbury, Murray Hipkin, Louise Shephard and Lore Lixenberg.
Our performance went down a storm: we had just five minutes and performed a few of the 'Out140' stories: true coming out stories from people told in 140 characters or less which had been set to music by Mary, our Musical Director and others.
One comment was that our set was so great because it was unique, and stood out because we didn't do any of the classics or show tunes which choirs often choose.
It was a long day (got back about 2am Sunday morning) but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
