Blackfriars Station

This station in built on a bridge across the River Thames in London.  As a result there are splendid views down the river from the platforms.  The roof is covered in photo-voltaic cells which, apparently, produce half of the electricity used by the station.

We went into London just for a break and a change of scene.  After wandering up the river for a while, finding a seat to enjoy our lunch, we took the underground to South Kensington as I wanted to visit the Photography Centre at the V&A museum.  This has been open quite a while, but I had still not visited it. I found it interesting but a little disappointing.  There are two long galleries of photographs from the birth of photography to the current day, plus other galleries showing specific aspects of the medium - including the development of the technology. However, given the vast collection owned by the museum, I had rather hoped to see more photographs.  I shall return sometime for another look, and to see if they rotate the displays.  I also want to visit the exhibition "Fragile Beauty", a selection of images from the Elton John and David Furnish collection.
