Last Chesham Sunset
One of my removal team arrived this morning, and while he got on with packing everything up in each room I thoroughly cleaned the now defrosted fridge-freezer and also the cooker. Fortunately I had the oven professionally cleaned some years ago and hardly used it after that. It and the boiler have been serviced annually, even when I wasn’t here much, so they’re still perfectly safe. I also did a *lot* of vacuuming and cleaning of cupboards etc. Yet another trip to the tip after the packing had been completed, where I left the Veolia chaps playing my cheap and dilapidated guitar with three strings that I’ve had since I was 15 and never learnt to play. No room for it in Tiptree. My Extra shows many boxes stacked up in the lounge. There are as many again in the two bedrooms. How they’re all going to fit in the bungalow I do not know. The garage there is already full of furniture waiting to be donated. I have come to hate “stuff”.
It’s now 10pm and I’ve just finished supper (cold pasta from Sainsbury’s, with some fresh fruit and yoghurt). My back is in agony and I’m utterly shattered. Due to the hard work and the humidity I’ve sweated buckets and guzzled gallons of water over the past two days.
My blip is the last sunset I will ever see from the lounge window of the flat. I’ve watched and photographed countless sunsets from this spot over the past 28 years, but never will again. The end of an era.
