I have just found out that a trading licence for a burger van at Bedford River Festival cost £19,000
The festival was open for 12.5 hours on Saturday and 10 hours on Sunday – a total of 22.5 trading hours
Let's assume that in order to pay for the licence the van operator has “uplifted” the price he sells a burger by £3.50 above his usual price, which would cover ingredients, fuel, labour and normal rent.
He still has to sell over 240 burgers an hour to cover the cost, which is 4 a minute, or one burger every 15 seconds, consistently for the entire festival.
