ASHTON MEMORIAL

A semi successful day today.  I couldn't think of going anywhere that I hadn't been to before and as it's now school holidays everywhere is going to be heaving so I just need to choose carefully where I go.

I decided to go to Williamson Park in Lancaster and that I would go early and I'm so glad I did.  Thank heavens for Google Maps 'cos although she probably directed me through back roads I would't have found it without her.

I arrived just after it had opened at about 9.40, at that time there were only 2 other cars in the car park.

I walked through the park, took some photos by the ornamental pond and then on to the Ashton Memorial.  This memorial dominates the Lancaster Skyline and from part of the M6 you get a good view of both Lancaster Castle and The Ashton Memorial.  I can even see it from my balcony, with binoculars!!!

Typical of my luck though, the very best place to stand to get the best view of the memorial was surrounded by metal fences, right up to the left hand side of the stairway.  So I took the best photos I could manage - not great but at least I got some photos.  Not sure whether I will enter this for the Unique Architecture challenge or not but I may do as it doesn't really matter at least I will have given it a go.   You enter enter two images so I may just go along to Rampside for the lighthouse there for my second image, then again I may do something else, or just enter one - decisions, decisions - I'm retired I don't make decisions any more!!!! LOL!!!

Then I walked all the way up the stairs, to take in the views and more photos up there, then I went round to the entrance, and guess what, it's closed for refurbishment!!!!  Aaarrghh I was so wanting to taking internal architectural photos as it is so lovely in there (another part of the challenge foiled).

Never mind I went into the cafe for coffee and a biscuit and whilst there more and more families were arriving.  It is very popular with families and children due to the free facilities it has.  It was lovely to hear people enjoying themselves in the warm sunshine.

I then walked a  different way past the ornamental pond to the car and decided I would leave and perhaps call in somewhere on the way home.

However once I got going I just decided to go home as the roads were getting busier and busier, so I was back home for lunch!!  I've put a collage in extras.  When I got back to the car park it was now full and the park was getting really busy so it was time for me to leave.

That's all from me for today.  Do take care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
