Fly Candy

I used to raise and sell Iberis sempervirens, the perennial candytuft but this annual variety is new to me. It's from the packet of seeds that is meant to attract insects. I've seen very few visiting but I think insect numbers are down generally owing to all the wet weather we have had. I found it interesting when I read that the name candytuft is not related to candy but derives from Candia, the former name of Heraklion on the island of Crete. The fly is very spiky. Could be a Tachinid.
