Vote for the Deck Chair Party

What a cracking day. Sitting on Goodrington Beach in my deckchair provided free of charge to all Torbay residents with a bus pass. I got my free permit yesterday and have already had good value. The only drawback is it says retired old age pensioner on it. I am still young enough to play Glastonbury. I am younger than Sir Alec Ferguson. Anyway it is a vote winner as far as I am concerned.

I am reading Nobody's Fool by Richard Russo. 549 pages for 50p from the charity shop. I am a fan so also terrific value. In this small seaside town with many retirees I am turning into one of Russo's characters.

Synopsis of book from internet - Amid the whip-crack repartee and wildly proliferating subplots, readers will also discover a serious exploration of the sometimes nourishing, sometimes strangling ties between fathers and sons; a bittersweet homage to America's obsolescing small towns, and a ruefully wise take on what earlier writers called predestination and grace and what Russo's characters experience as plain dumb luck.
