Contemplative

From the heat of Istanbul to the cool rain of Woking. After leave I’ve tacked on a few days working at our UK office, which is in Surrey. The weather is hideous; if someone told me it was November, I wouldn’t question it.

This and a few other statues in Woking town centre are linked to the work of Sean Henry, a local artist born here. This one is supposed to represent a man being ‘contemplative’.

We all felt like this as we shuffled to the food court to pay £14 to wait by a food van for some bibimbap. If I was being generous I would stretch to say it filled me up. Going out to consume food and drink in the UK now apparently requires a bank loan.

The good part was sharing lunch with my old workmate Karina, who works in the UK office since we both shifted NGOs. It had been years since we’d met face to face. Definitely not since the onset of Covid, often now used as a defining milestone when working out what has happened and when.
