Dear Photo Diary

The Mob

It always amazes me that so many boring old traditions remain at what are otherwise quite modern and laid-back weddings. For example the signing of the register shot, the receiving line, the cutting of the cake (oh how I love the cutting of the cake)... The children giving the bride and groom a horse shoe is another one that just won't seem to do the decent thing and die out. The brides are never the slightest bit interested, and the horse shoe is passed off to the nearest bridesmaid within seconds, but the older generation seem to insist. Of course I try to get a shot of it - when I notice that it's happening, nobody ever tells the photographer - and I inevitably have to fight my way through the mob to get it.

Today I had to fight particularly hard, and once I got my shot I went behind the kids to photograph the other side. One of the little boys dared to try to get away (after posing for a good 5 minutes) and was quickly shoved back into his place. There was a similar scene behind me during the family portraits, so at least I know there are a couple of dozen versions of each shot if mine don't turn out!

The guests are just finishing their desserts now, so I probably have another 60/90 minutes to hang around before the first dance. It's been a nice wedding so far, I particularly like the bride, so that makes dealing with this lot a bit easier :)
