We were the first arrivals in the orienteering carpark this morning and one of the first on the bus to Craig-Y-Nos Country Park as we had early starts for Day 3 of Croeso24 and it was at least a 50 minutes walk up the hill to the start on the top of the fell (are they fells in Wales?).  It was warm but a little overcast, just how I like it for my version of orienteering.  I made an error heading to number 1 and overshot the control, but after that it was really enjoyable orienteering with well mapped areas of limestone pavement, so very like our terrain back in the Yorkshire Dales.  When I could look up from the map, the views across to the Black Mountains were excellent.  As I arrived at the penultimate control, Tony arrived from his course too and I tried to beat him into the finish, well that wasn't going to happen!  We walked back down the hill, ate our lunch and chatted to friends then took the bus back to the carpark and drove into Brecon for some shopping and very nice cuppas and cake at The Coffee Box.

Meanwhile, the cloud cover had burned away and the day has turned very hot.  Back at our cottage on the farm we have emptied the car; washed through some running gear; put a lamb casserole (!) in the oven (always interesting adapting holiday cottage kitchen pots and pans!) and now we are relaxing.  I've tried to capture the bird of prey which visits each day on Merlin to no avail, but the barn swallows, white wagtails and long tailed tits are out and about.
