His bright red throat patch identifies him as an immature male. Mature males' throats are completely red. Fun Fact: Ruby-throats are the only hummingbirds that breed east of the Mississippi River. This youngster is already very territorial!  'Our' hummers even attempt to chase away a Red-shouldered hawk that sits on a tree limb above the bog each morning, hunting for frogs. Absolutely fearless they are!  m
