Life in a Northern Town

Royal family

It’s my Mum’s birthday on Friday and I couldn’t think what to send - then I had a brainwave to send her this photo of her family. It was taken in 1937, she is the baby and it’s remarkable firstly as her father, James, a sailor, was killed not long afterwards, in the early days of WW2, but also because they were so poor (and photography so expensive at the time).

I was pleased with the idea until John looked at it and said “so your Mum is the only one still living”….. Now I’m thinking sending a photo of all her deceased family isn’t such a good idea. I’m in a quandary.
