Up to finish making A’s birthday cake. Went for one of her favourites…what we call a safari cake since we first made it for L&M coming back from a big safari holiday where they’d got engaged. It’s a plain sponge with the centre hollowed out, filled with strawberries and cream and the lid replaced and iced over so the filling is a surprise…yum!
Found an email wondering if I was still applying for a role whose deadline was last night…I’d completely forgotten about it over the weekend! They’ve given me til tomorrow to do it, so once the cake was sorted and the kitchen cleaned up I just got down to  finishing it.
A&N arrived about lunchtime and went straight down to town to do their planned clothes shopping and go for the facial that I’d arranged for her, and I worked on through. Took Paisley into the garden for a while and moved their car when the parking ran out then joined them in George Square gardens for the food festival. So much for her fears about rain messing up their plans for the day….although it hard started cloudy the sun came through for her and after pouring over pictures of all the menus she’d gone round and taken we chose various dumplings, noodles, fried chicken etc and worked our way through it with our pints of Pimms….lovely!
We then came home for tea and cake and watched a daft film about the invention of pop tarts. It was trying to be a sort of Paddington film, even with Hugh Grant playing the baddie, but wasn’t as slick. They did however do a good satirical section reprising the Washington Jan 6th riot….(which is about as close as I can get to engaging with US politics at the moment.  I've been finding the Trump new messiah ranting and the slow painful end of Biden's campaign very difficult to read about/listen to).
A&N had both fallen asleep before it ended and I had to wake them up before we headed to bed.
