Settled on a thistle

Last Friday little Miss B broke up from school - her whole first year completed and she's still not yet five! Today, the first day of the summer holidays, we arrived to find both children chalking on the garden patio paving slabs. I've selected the swan from LMB's countryside scene as my Extra as I thought it was beautiful. (Chalk colours don't photograph well.)

My main blip follows a return to the meadow near the railway line in Swayfield, where I recently saw lots of 'black and white' butterflies. Again, I saw a few, but this time managed to take a photo when this one settled. So I now know it is a Marbled White (Melanargia galathea). (My photo matches those in my guide book, showing it to be brownish and white, but to the naked eye they do appear black and white.) So at least one person was right with their suggestions. Thank you.

(Just for the record: also saw ringlets and one small skipper. Butterflies at last!)
