Day 24 Avilés to Muros de Nalón

After two days of demanding distances it was good to get some reprieve today and I endeavoured to regard as a rest day, walking meditatively and stopping when the opportunity arose, which turned out to be just once when I’d walked less than 6k.

The highlight was crossing the Río Nalón with fine views to the fortified village of El Castillo de San Martín.

I had plenty of energy left when I arrived at Muros de Nalón and on the advice of the hotel chap I set out to explore some of the nearby beaches with the intention of swimming. They were all rocky and wild, the walk down to the shore was probably the most strenuous of the day, worth it though, probably.

Best of all there is a small restaurant which opens at 7.30, I ate my emergency supper mid afternoon.

23 k excluding the beach walk, 687m ascent, about 10 pilgrims, one conversation
