Greater or Lesser

What is the difference between the ‘Greater Spotted Woodpecker’, and the ‘Lesser Spotted Woodpecker’.

Well to start with the ‘Lesser Spotted Woodpecker’ is not seen as often as the ‘Greater Spotted Woodpecker’.  Ok, although correct, at least around here, that is very silly.  Now what day is today??

You could say that the ‘Greater Spotted Woodpecker’ is bigger than the ‘Smaller Spotted Woodpecker’.  Now you may think this is silly, but it is in fact true.  One is about the size of a sparrow, while the other is about the size of a big ‘Blackbird’ or ‘Starling’.  Of course the ‘Green Woodpecker’ is bigger still, but we are not talking about that one . . .

There is also subtle differences in the markings between the ‘Lesser’ and the ‘Greater’, but when it comes to the ‘Green’ – well work it out for yourself . . .

The blip is a feather from the ‘Greater’ found on our lawn this afternoon.  I thought it would make a good blip.

The hound (Biskit) is home with his family tonight, and boy was he missing them.   When we normally have him for a day or so he is usually reluctant to get in the car to go home.  For the last couple of days, on his second walk, he was asking to get in the car.  The kids are back from their jaunt in Southern Spain and have had a great time.  ALL the flights and plans went to plan, including the flights today after yesterday – a miracle in itself.
