The Mohaka Viaduct
The Mrs and I started travelling back to Wellington from Gisborne today in the thunderstorms and flooding. I was determined to find a blip along our seven hour journey through Middle Earth and the Mohaka Viaduct did not disappoint. The dangers of stopping the car along a narrow section of state highway 2 coupled with getting as close to the structure as possible without falling into the Mohaka river proved to be a worthy adversary...
Anyway, some history from the IPENZ web page shows that this viaduct is the highest railway viaduct in Australasia measuring 95 meters, and at the time of it's construction in the 1930's was the fourth tallest in the world!
