Home is where the cat is
M is back home tonight and seems to have made a remarkable recovery. There was a hiccup in the morning over departure when the wound started to bleed. Eventually a phone call to the surgeon said that was perfectly normal.
The delay came because they had some difficulty locating him because he had worked yesterday from 7.30 am ( I saw him come in) and did not get home until 10.30 pm.
What I had not appreciated until now is the extent of some doctors working for the NHS then “moonlight” into private medicine. The result is that they have a phenomenal workload.
I also learnt that the very pleasant woman who finally sorted out the confusion over M’s stay in hospital was a Patient Assistant, a job she had done for 25 years.
Also what made me feel uneasy is that there is no duty doctor . It would appear that if there is a medical emergency you are whisked off to the local NHS hospital.
The whole experience makes me appreciate our NHS even more.
