'The Australian Lyrebird'

Today Dylan was invited to Anika's birthday party which was up at a picnic ground in Kinglake National Park, about 1 hour drive north east from home.

This is the first time that I've ever seen one of these very special birds. We could hear him while we walked along the track down to the falls and then we spotted him sitting in a tree mimicking all of the other birds in the area. These birds are so clever that they can mimic almost any sound, including a camera shutter being clicked, a car alarm going off, or even a chainsaw chopping down trees. I recorded this guy going through his repertoire, but not sure how to upload the sounds so here is a youtube video of Sir David Attenborough in this very same area giving us the lowdown on these guys.

Very exciting to finally see a lyrebird in the flesh.

All of the kids had a great time on our walk down to the falls too, follwed by a BBQ lunch and luckily the forecast rain held off until later this afternoon.

Another good win by the Hawks today to retain top spot on the ladder, well done boys.
