I Took...
...Daisy Doo for a walk this morning...
While I was out yesterday, Emily messaged twice in a row and then called so I knew something was wrong. Pongo (he broke his leg back in February) hurt his leg on Wednesday evening so she had him at the vet yesterday morning. She was so distraught she couldn't get the words out so I said I would come straight over. Long story short, they did an X-ray and he has a tumour that is almost certainly bone cancer at the top of his femur. They said his lungs were clear but stressed bone cancer in dogs is extremely fast spreading. They referred her to the Vet School in Glasgow so she is there today which is why I walked Daisy.
They said one option would be to do a biopsy (which can take over a week to get the results) but in the same breath they suggested going straight to amputation as his lungs are clear and that would potentially stop it spreading, or at least slow down the rate at which it spreads. They said if she doesn't amputate he has a matter of weeks.
Dale said that it was a miracle his lungs were clear and would 100% go for amputation to buy a bit of time. Dale said almost all of bone cancer cases she has seen in practice has already advanced to the lungs and there is nothing you can do.
They were going to do CT scans, which I am guessing will confirm bone cancer and also indicate the extent of it. I feel so utterly heart broken for Emily and Pongo and I wait with baited breath to hear what she has decided to do.
