St Mary, Chesham

Matthew is working locally this week, restoring the two 8ft clock dials and stripping and cleaning the clock here. The clock strikes Westminster Quarters and also plays a tune. I took a picnic lunch and we sat in the Churchyard, lovely!

There are a ring of 6 bells, and the access to the tower is unusual as you have to go up a flight of stairs, walk across the roof and into the ringing Chamber! Also in the ringing room there is a beam that runs across the centre, so the bells are rung either side of the beam, when you are a little on the short side like me it can be difficult to see your fellow ringers! The bells are cast by T. Mears in 1812 and the sanctus bell was cast c.1440 and the Tower captain here is a lovely chap too!
