Stones of Stenness
In Orkney for a few days, with R, S+R, came over on the ferry from Scrabster this morning and camping at Kirkwall. There is a stunning amount of neolithic archeology on Orkney. Visited the ring of Brogdar and the stones of Stenness today, two neolithic stone circles. Today's blip is the stones of Stenness, dating from about 3,400 BC they are possibly older than Stonehenge (about 3000 BC).
The extra is Barnhouse, a neolithic settlement a few hundred yards from the stones of Stenness, dating from 3000 BC and abandoned about 2400 BC.
