Fossils

I decided a quieter and less energetic day was in order today, so I headed to the National Trust Hive Beach at Burton Bradstock, just a 10minute trip from where I'm staying near Bridport.

It was too early for coffee, so I took a walk along the beach with just the iPhone. The soft sandstone cliffs are very unstable and there was evidence of relatively recent falls. I took a careful look around one of the larger ones and was delighted to finally see some fossils.  I even managed to dig out an ammonite which I will take home to treasure - it may not be a great example but it's my discovery!

Coffee and Dorset Apple Cake was the next order of the day after which I grabbed the big camera and walked to to Burton Freshwater, the outlet of the River Bride, where I had my picnic lunch surrounded by more rock encrusted fossils. (Extra 2)

It was then back to Hive Beach for ice cream before wandering in the opposite direction to Cogden. By the time I headed back there was a distinct sea haze arising providing some lovely minimalist views (extra 1)

All in all it was another great day, and I actually walked further than yesterday, though without the hills!
