Colourful

Had to take the van to the local garage for its annual check-up so took the opportunity to go for a walk from the village. It's a route we've used before, but this time I was looking for the entrance to Northfield Wood, a local community project which we'd been aware of but hadn't known its location. It turned out that a gap in the hedge led to the wood, and was not, as we'd previously assumed, a back entrance to the allotments. There seemed to be a mixture of native broadleaved and fruit trees, the latter including apple, cherry, medlar and quince. Apparently some of the apples are local "rare breeds". There were well maintained mown paths, and the open areas were quite dazzling with masses of rosebay willowherb plus many other flowers and grasses. It's difficult to portray the mixture without it looking messy - I chose this section because of the scabious in the foreground. It was earlyish in the morning so hadn't reached the temperatures we had later in the day, but there were some butterflies around!
