Antonio Mari

Haven’t met up with the well know artist and sculptor Antonio Mari (blue shirt) since he created a ‘welcome man’ statue and a large coffee table for our newly built home here in 2003.

Decided to cycle to his new studio and workshop up the valley.  It’s been on my todo list for years!

——

We chanced upon his old workshop late 2003 and commissioned the work, 3 months later he and his fellow sculptor (in photo) turned up and installed the art in our new home.  Must search for the old photo compilation from 2004 - found it (attached).

Over twenty years have passed and these two and their team are still very creative and productive  - public and private client projects.

At the time we met Antonio he was creating a sculpture for King Juan Carlos of Spain’s daughter who was about to be married.  I think it was a commission from the regional government.

I remember we sat in his small studio and workshop on a mountain road above the port and we shared his lunch and a bottle of wine while he sketched out our two pieces.
