Grumpy Old Man

Boxwood and Loxwood

My brother picked me up this morning and we set off for Surrey and Sussex. Down through Esher and Oxshott, then along past Box Hill where we stopped at a favourite café for a mid-morning cuppa. We then had a walk along the valley of the River Mole where we enjoyed a chat with a bunch of National Trust volunteers.

Various wanderings and stoppings, then on to Knepp Estate, home of 'Rewilding', where we hoped to have lunch, but found little to our taste so moved on. 'The Six Bells' in Billingshurst - my Blip today - was our next stop where had lunch in the form of Summer Vegetable Soup, which would have been even better had it been hot! A wander round the churchyard and we moved on again, stopping at various places of interest until we reached Loxwood, a small village on the Wey and Arun canal. After trying without success to help a man start his van, we walked half an hour in each direction, then finished off with bowls of ice cream from the nearby pub, sitting beside the water.

Back to Hampton to my brother's for dinner - a lovely and interesting day.

Quote of the Day: 'My love for ice cream emerged at an early age - and has never left!' - Ginger Rogers.
