Ponderous Carriage

Today was what happens when your Gal orders something online, looks at the delivery charge & thinks "How much?!?" and opts to collect it herself.
I mean Hinckley isn't that far* from this side of Manchester is it?

Today being 'the day' I cajoled youngest into being truckers-mate and so off we went, much later than intended. Phone Satnav always suggests taking either the M1 or M6, but as our car is an early Nissan Leaf EV with the smallest battery, a bit of a Hare & Tortoise approach is needed.

Taking the more direct cross country(side) route adds almost an hour to the trip, but reduces the mileage quite a bit which can be used to our advantage. Have done this route a couple of times driving to London so it's tried & tested. The extra time is more than compensated for by only needing one charge stop on the way down (Appleby Magna services - McCoffee stop) followed by another half way back home (Ashbourne next to an Aldi - Chocolate Milk stop - extra)

We came back a slightly different route for a change of scenery and spotted the old sign blipped on a little bridge over a brook in a lovely little somewhere called Repton, which according to Wikipedia has a Viking burial mound within it's boundary. Our car wasn't too unusual in weight or unusually ponderous so we took our chances.

( * 176 mile round trip ... ah well ... was a nice day for it at least ;-D )
