‘My Favourite Skyscape’

Watching the view of the NewTown of Edinburgh with the Castle on the horizon - and an interesting early morning sky.

This evening I went to an event at a small local independent bookshop celebrating the republication of my Aunt, Dorothy Pilley’s, book ‘Climbing Days’. (Extras). Originally published in 1935, and out of print for many years, it has just been republished by Canongate.

My aunt was very much a trail blazing woman climber in the 1920s and30s. She also had a strong personality that I have to admit I found rather intimidating as a child growing up in the 50s. As a result of a road accident her days as a climber had also been curtained. Now, nearly 40 years after her death, and with the renewed interest in her exploits in recent years, I have come increasingly to appreciate her in a different light.
