Where I live

I love my neighbourhood.

Some people might be uncomfortable with living as close as we do. And sometimes you hear more than you want to.

But there are friends within five minutes walk in every direction and some closer. My kids can walk to school and play on the street with their friends, whose houses are almost familiar as home. I can drink beer on the front wall with a friend from over the road after work. I can borrow a handful of tea bags if needed after the shops have shut.

It strikes me that this is surely a basic human need, to do with the way we are built.

I grew up in this city and then went away thinking I'd probably never come back. Now that's changed and I wouldn't live anywhere else. I increasingly believe that we should love where we live because it becomes what we are and vice versa.

Anyway, not sure what that's got to do with the picture.
