Day 20 Ribadesella to Colunga
I made an early start missing breakfast which wasn’t until 9 and in the cool of the morning made it to La Vega for a late breakfast of coffee and a doughnut. The bar was just off the Camino and was as busy with pilgrims as I’ve seen on this trip. I caught up with one of them later in the day.
More beaches, busy ones with cafes and ice cream pop ups. I started seeing these horreos (for grain storage) few days ago. They’re more elaborate than the ones I saw on the Camino Francés where they were occasionally used for their original purpose.
A quiet back road took me away from coast and tonight I’m in Colunga, a small agricultural town with a Jurassic museum which I gave a miss, in my view the beach at Kildonan on Arran has the best dinosaur footprints, when the tide is low enough.
My accommodation is charming, an old wooden house with large balconies covered in vegetation and some bougainvillea. I had a laundry splurge and now most of my stuff is dry. I suspect the downside is mosquitoes.
24km, 515m ascent, 8 pilgrims and 2 conversations.
