Nicky and her Nikon

Low cloud

We have had low cloud over the mountains all day, but it has been mild, still warm enough to wear shorts despite the lack of sun. Gavin was working today so after breakfast I took Xena for a walk, she is very patient as I stop all the time to take photos of the wild flowers and she doesn't seem to mind. I have noticed many more wild orchids this year, and also wild lupins which I have not noticed before.

The local farmers have been cutting hay all day, it is back breaking work as it is done either manually with a scythe or with a hand pushed mower. Due to the steepness of the land they cannot drive machinery to automatically cut the grass. In extras a scene of the cut grass. Usually the entire family is involved and you see the children also out on the side of the mountain helping with the cutting.

I got back at lunch time and we had lunch at home. Later this afternoon Gavin and I played nine holes of golf. The local golf course is not PGA rated or anything like that, and some holes are madly frustrating as they are impossible and I think designed by a drunk man one night after a boozy dinner. Its a tricky course as it is built on the side of a mountain so its very steep, you have to use golf carts to play they don't allow you to walk the course. One hole has about a 50m drop from the tee box, the course is very much up and down - like my game today, haha!

Today was the King's Speech in parliament where the king delivers the new Labour governments proposals and draft laws in parliament. I suppose we have to wait and see the effect of these proposals, but one of them is to nationalise the railways. We have been experiencing train strikes for a couple of years now, I wonder if that situation will improve with a nationalised railway?

Ww have been enjoying watching the Turkish Detective and also High Country on BBC - interesting to see dramas made in places other than the UK.
