Testing the Waters...

I am still feeding and medicating my friend Elaine's cat while she is off cottaging up north...Poor wee Dickens..methinks he is lonely. He has become  a very grumpy cat - perhaps it has something to do with the need for this medication?

Whatever, he is not prone to receiving pets or hugs and instead growls and hisses at strangers like me..but he still seems pleased to see me - as long as I do not try to get too near him. I am not worthy I guess of his loving ways.. I am just this stranger, who three times a day, walks into his house and puts down a bowl of food and a huge water dish..a dish, by the way, big enough to be a wading pool!

I thought it must be Elaine's dog's dish that for convenience sake, serves both of them when the dog is in residence? Why would a cat need such a huge bowl? Am I suppose to fill the bowl? How much water does this cat drink? And why, when I return, is there always water splashed all over the mat under the bowl. Well, now I know..caught him in action tonight!  And it was quite entertaining to watch..

Perhaps he has had to compete with the dog and has adapted to the challenge of a dog-size water bowl? Developed new cat skills? like walking in water, balancing on three legs on the rim whilst licking his paw?  It seems that much agility is required for a cat to get a small sip of water.. Who knew?

Maggie has never shown such finesse...methinks she just drinks it? Saves the paw technique for dipping into flower vases?

Speaking of water....

It was day of rain..teeming rain, flooding roads and basements - thankfully not mine; it was more of an issue in Toronto than it was here,  but still, we have had lots and lots of rain along with heat and humidity. The garden loves it, but I will be glad when some cooler weather comes along...
