What rain was that?

We’d always planned to resume our stay in Newhaven after the weekend; we worried this morning that we’d made a mistake in leaving the journey till today. The weather forecast predicted traffic-disrupting rain in Central Scotland for the afternoon, and I suddenly needed to consult the dentist about a pain around a front tooth which has niggled for weeks but today was sore from the off. Clearly we were going to need Noah to get us along the M8 in the afternoon…

I was impressed by the attention the dentist - a young woman whom I’d not met before but whose own teeth were a great advertisement for her profession - gave me, applying several horrid tests ( pressure, cold, tapping ), poking at fillings that might’ve been loose but weren’t, x-raying the offending area. She also explained it all , which I appreciated/ I like being treated as a sentient being. In the end she’d ruled out all the more mechanical causes and went for neuralgia or tooth-grinding… either of which sounded horribly likely.

We got away after 1pm and drove over with only some light rain around Edinburgh Airport. We had dinner in Rishi’s across the harbour - I love their Railway Lamb. By the time we left the sky was clear and the sun made the water gleam - and that’s when I took the above photo.

And rain? Gone. I have severe misgivings about the survival of my phlox…
