A view from Jeanneb

Lacock - Day 2

Both girls off this mornng , Eda jumped the gun and was off next door before 8.30, the agreed time, but they didn’t mind.

A dull but dry start to the day so with a bit of time to spare Jude played football with Boppa in the garden. I sent a picture to the parents who had sent us a picture of them having outdoor breakfast with a view, the football  caused derision on What’s App from our son as Chris has refused to watch any of the recent football and didn’t come to the fun football party on Sunday night!

Successfully got Jude to nursery and then we came back for another cuppa and a chill before driving to Lacock to visit the village and the Abbey. Only 30 minutes away so we were there quite early. We’ve visited the village quite a few years ago but not the Abbey.
Established by Ella of Salisbury as a nunnery in the 13th century till the 16th century when after the dissolution it was put up for sale to a private buyer. The place became the home to the Talbot family when it was inherited after 60 years and remained in their ownership until Matilda Talbot left it to the National Trust in 1944.

Her ancestor was William Fox Talbot who lived here in the 19th century, he was a scientist and was a pioneer of photography, inventing the negative.
There was a museum of photography in the entrance building with an exhibition space above with a current exhibition of International photography.

After we’d looked around there we went into the village. It had been warm despite the cloud and we had sat outside in the courtyard for coffee but when the sun appeared around lunchtime it was hot!

The whole village belongs to the National Trust and is frequently used as a period film set.

A very pleasant morning without going far. Picked Jude up at 5.00 and Eda was brought home just after 5.30. As a treat Chris has been to the next village, Batheaston, for fish and chips as on Monday and Tuesday they cook gluten free. Very nice but even with two portions between four there were far too many chips!

Lovely evening now and it’s supposed to be nice tomorrow!
