It Rained!

I had intended to stop off at Lulworth Cove and walk over the cliffs to Durdle Door on my way to Bridport in Dorset for a weeks break.  However, checking the weather forecast, with its warnings of heavy rain, I decided a location with some cover may be prudent. So instead I headed to Kingston Lacy, owned by the National Trust.

It turned out to be a good decision.

It poured with rain for most of the day, but was warm enough to sit outside in the stable courtyard for coffees, and I found a large dry tent intended for children's play which I had to myself for my picnic lunch.  The house itself was interesting, and I finally found the location of the attic rooms decorated like tents which I discovered many years ago but couldn't recall where (although today they were unfortunately closed).

I braved the rain under my umbrella to walk round the formal and kitchen gardens. This lion attacking a snake is one of a pair either side of steps up to one of the original entrances to the house. I thought the sinuous curves of the snake would just about provide a subject for today's Mono Monday Challenge of "curves" - it also amply shows the wet weather!

The rest of the week is forecast to be dryer, so I may yet get to Durdle Door.
