If you can't beat them...

Skiddaw from Bassenthwaite Lake.

We had business in Cockermouth so mid morning we loaded things into the car and set off.  After our business we headed for the Squirrels' Pantry for lunch.  In previous times Red Squirrels were seen from the cafe but they haven't been seen recently.

On the way home we stopped with a short detour at the Lake Districts only lake.  For those who think this statement a little strange all the other lakes have part of their name that means more or less the same as lake.  For example Derwentwater and Windermere.  To say,  as you often hear Windermere lake is actually like saying Winderlake lake.

Bassenthwaite lake is a eutrophic lake , this results in lots of shoreline vegetation.  The trees and bushes grow right down to and in some cases into the water.  This means getting views out across the lake is difficult.  Where we were there are only three places with good view and that is because at some point stones have been laid (clearly seen in the shot) meaning plants can't get a hold.

P.S.  It must have been a dry summer when the satellite photos were taken as there is a pebble shore that doesn't normally exist.
