Unopened

I popped down to the Lanterne Rouge just after 9am for a restorative flat white, a wee chat with Osh and to get stuck into my book.

In that lovely way the village has about it, I left three hours later not having even opened it.

First of all I sat down with Nic for a chat and an update on the cocktail sampling evening she went to, then Andy came in and sat down for a catch up and to explain the sprint orienteering event he’d been to. Malcolm then sat at the next table and we swapped pleasantries before Meg came over to say hello and ask me to look after Monty for a while. At the same time a group of three cyclists shouted hello and I realised we had been sat at the same table as them at a wedding in 2022 and they had subsequently read all of Mrs Smith’s Whitby novels. Then Gordon and Rosemary came in and Gordon wanted to update me on the progress at the Canadian distillery and tell me about the Gaelic language week he had enjoyed on the Shetland Isles last week.

Before I knew it, it was time to head into town to pick up Ruby. Kelda has headed back up north but they’d had a lovely surprise picnic with a group of friends yesterday to celebrate their engagement.

Back home for a bit of house exploring before I rustled up some dinner.
